Margaret Ann Even Margaret Ann Even (nee Zernia), of Sun Prairie died peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison after a long and courageous battle with lymphoma. Margaret was born on June 28, 1942 in Milwaukee to the late Raymond and Myrtle Zernia. Her family moved to Grafton in 1948, and she graduated from Dominican High School in 1960. Margaret married William Even on Feb. 8, 1964. She also lived in Colorado and Florida before returning to Milwaukee. Margaret was an avid bird watcher. She loved to read, play and watch poker, travel and spend time at the lake. She enjoyed the outdoors, teaching her grandsons, great nieces and nephews how to identify all the species of birds by sight and song. She also spent time in Fort Myers, Fla. with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Myrtle Zernia; her brother, Duane O’Leary; and her brother-in-law, Eldon Eaton. Survivors include her son, William (Michelle) Even Jr.; two sisters, Betty Holk and Susan Eaton; two brothers, Raymond (Casey) Zernia and Thomas (Sandy) Zernia; her sister-in-law, Clare O’Leary; and her dearest friend, Audrey Balweg. Margaret was the much loved Nana to Matthew and Preston Even. She was also the cherished aunt and great aunt to her nieces and nephews. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. A memorial Mass celebrating Margaret’s life with be held at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend on her birthday, Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Gerald Brittain presiding. Following Mass, there will be a gathering at Lighthouse Lanes to celebrate Margaret’s life and birthday. The Schramka-Herrick Funeral Home is serving the family.
